<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Well, they are crossed at 70 Hz with a LR 24dB/Oct electronic crossover ahead of the SS amp.I'd have to say they thunder. And they seem to blend well with the 19's. I let the 19's run full range, so I'm sure there some phase issues between the two. I need to haul the scope out and see how different they are electrically.
and yeah, they pump a lot of air.
I'm quite pleased for only $375!

    Ron,

Are you still happy with the 3184's? How well do you think they match up with the 19's now that you have had some more time with them? I was also thinking of adding subs to my system and was pondering 3184's. Do the subs add enough that I should reconsider the dual 416 Model 19 variants? I feel like the 19's alone lack some low end punch. I also could handle more of the mid bass punch of the 19's... that is why I was considering the dual 416 set up.

I also saw some old posts re: Bassmaxx 18" subs. They indicate a lot more potential bass from the driver, but I am partial to Altec. Great Plains has new 3184's that I will keep in mind if they are priced right.

What kind of boxes did you use and how big?

Are you using an active crossover? Brand, model? I am pondering an Outlaw 990 pre/processor that has sub out and decent control, so I thought about running the 19's (or variants) full range and using the sub out. I also have a Rane MOJO Xover that will do same thing if I need to go active on the 19 variants...

I think if I just search the old posts here long enough, I will find most of the answers to the questions I have about the new system I want to build.

I would like to see pictures of your set-up when you have time. Sounds like you are right in the ball park of where I am trying to go.

    Hey Carl,

I love the 3184's. Actually, I bought the 8184's.....boxes and the 3184 woofs. Genuine Altec subs.

Here are a couple of photos:

    Sub1

    Sub3

Pay no attention to the nitrous bottle....it's bad for your car......

My crossover is home brew. I semi designed it myself. Works perfect and I can adjust the freq.

I use an old Kenwood KA9100 100W/ch SS amp to run them I bought the amp new in 1978. It's an integrated, so I can adj volume as well as the bass turnover etc to get em set the way I like.

    Enjoy.

I was gonna ask if the nitrous was just for the subs or used on the whole system! forums How much better does it sound on nitrous? lol!

Sounds like they don't need a ton of power if you are only using a 100 watt amp. I think I have at least one 200 watt amp that I could use.

I may have to consider this route for subs.

Thanks for the info! The system upgrade/update may be easier than I was thinking...
